Can Marble be used in the kitchen?

Marble is not recommended for use in the kitchen as it is easily stained and scratched.

Can I really cut on granite?

Granite is an extremely tough and durable stone, which can be used as a cutting surface although we do not recommend it. It is scratch resistant, but not scratch proof. You should be aware that cutting directly on the granite will dull your knives, and overtime it will also dull the surface of the granite.

Can my countertops scorch or burn?

Hot pots or open flames may not damage granite and marble, however it is recommended that you do not place hot pots, pans, or flames on quartz counters as the pigments and resins can discolor when exposed to extreme heat. Both products can also be subject to thermal shock, and we strongly suggest that you protect your countertops as you would any other surface.

Do stone countertops add value to my home? What is the life expectancy of granite?

Countertops made of natural or engineered stone add resale value to your home. As granite and quartz lasts a lifetime, after the cost of the initial installation (with proper maintenance and care) they should never need to be replaced.

Granite takes millions of years to form, and upon installation it will probably last for the lifetime of the home.

What is the difference between Marble and Granite?

Although both are stones, and both are quarried from the earth, granite and marble are very different from each other. Granite is formed deep in the earth’s mantle at extremely high temperatures, and is a very hard, resistant stone made of crystallized minerals. The marble family which includes limestone, travertine, marble, and onyx – starts out as sediment (animal skeletons and shells, plant matter, silt) at the bottom of bodies of water. After millions of years this solidifies into stone. Because its main component is calcium, acids such as vinegar and citrus beverages will etch it.

What is the difference between Granite and Quartz?

Quartz countertops are a man-made product containing approximately 93% quartz mineral and 7% pigments and resins. The resins give quartz countertops their non-porous properties but also their sensitivity to heat. Additionally, overexposure to ultraviolet rays can result in subtle discoloration and should not be used for outdoor applications.

Is Access Countertops Ltd templating and installing out of town?

Yes, we service all Southern British Columbia and can provide pricing as far north as Williams Lake for residential projects, and further north for commercial projects.

Engineered quartz is a man-made product created mostly from natural materials. It’s made of 90 to 94 percent ground quartz and 6 to 10 percent resins and pigments that are combined into durable and nonporous slabs.

The strength of quartz, even in a manufactured form, makes it naturally resistant (not proof) to abrasion, scratches, dents, without the need for sealants. It is nontoxic and non-allergenic, and will last a lifetime.

In a wide variety of colors, patterns, and textures, slabs of quartz are more consistent in its patterns and shades than natural stone. Colors and patterns that mimic natural stone, such as marble and granite, and cement lookalikes, are currently very popula
